The Bovis Lend Lease San Francisco office received LEEDŽ Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the interior fit-out of its new office space.
Bovis Lend Lease met the challenge of creating both an environmentally friendly and productive office workspace by incorporating sustainable design and materials.
The 9,300 square foot office maximizes natural lighting and the use of colorful, three-form eco-resin panels in yellow, blue and green to allow additional light throughout the space. The installation of transparent routed bamboo panels, a rapidly renewable material speaks to our commitment to sustainability. The project includes installation of energy-efficient lighting, automated dimming/dimmable ballasts along the office perimeter, dual flush toilets, flow restrictors at faucets, re-use of office furniture, installation environmentally preferable materials, low VOC paints and adhesives. Supplemental electrical and water meters were installed to measure energy optimization and water use savings. The project team implemented a comprehensive recycling and composting program, which included on-site waste sorting and reuse, and successfully diverted 75% (by weight) of waste from the landfill.
The project team designed and installed LEED educational boards throughout the office and implemented a “Green Office” tour. Green materials installed in the space include cork flooring, Masland carpet with 23% recycled fibers, Algoma Hardwood doors made with 61% recycled content agri-fiber cores, Bonded Logic insulation made with 100% recycled denim jeans, steel studs manufactured with 31% recycled steel, Teknion furniture systems with an overall recycled component content of 77%, the door frames are recycled 75% aluminum, Arreis MDF, which is made of 100% recycled wood fiber with no urea added resins, and sheetrock made of 12% recycled material.
Bovis Lend Lease installed Energy Star appliances in the break room and conference rooms, reduced the number of printers and copies per person, instituted a doubled-sided copying and printing policy, installed a recycling/composting center in the break room and recycling centers at each desk. Dishes were purchased to reduce waste in the break room. The housekeeping staff use new Hepa vacuums, green cleaning products and color coded rags.
San Francisco is the second Bovis Lend Lease office to achieve LEED certification; Los Angeles is also LEED certified, and LEED certification for Dallas and Upstate New York is pending.
“Bovis Lend Lease’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Bovis Lend Lease serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
